stephen colbert…

so i watched stephen colbert’s christmas special, whatever he called it and… meh. yeah, harsh judgment but here’s the problem…

  1. it’s a parody of those christmas special variety hour thingies so popular during the 70’s & early 80’s (you know the type – songs stitched together by the thinnest of plots). the problem is that everyone else has already parodied them – not funny.
  2. i’m really tired of the brain-dead ignorant smiling “stephen colbert” character. i get it – you’re a right-wing dumb@ss. message received… years ago. what else do you have?

i tried getting into the christmas special but there just wasn’t anything there that hadn’t been parodied before. i think that colbert has some talent but he has to move on from the right-wing dumb@ss persona that he’s created for himself. he’s over-exposing it & if he isn’t careful, he’ll just wind up being another william shatner hawking “bad acting” parodies like what he does now with the priceline commercials. the problem with colbert is that he doesn’t have something iconic like the show “star trek” to fall back on so that someone can say, “yeah, he acts like a big dork but he tried to take it seriously on star trek.” the colbert report is already a comedy show, whereas star trek at least attempted to be a serious show.

admittedly, the best part of the christmas special:

“we have candles.”

“what are they?”

they’re candles!
