tes construction set, part 1 after the break…

tes construction set, part 1…

i’m not a complete “n00b” (yeah, it makes me feel mentally inferior using the kiddie words, too, but you have to roll with the times, i guess) to morrowind / oblivion modding but i’ve always toyed with it for a few days & then dropped it after i figured out that i couldn’t make my grandiose castle or whatever without actually having to learn something.

like a smoker always claiming to quit but never quite going over that hump, i’m back at doing some modding if only to get my mind off of fallout 3. yeah, i’m in a fallout 3-y mood even though i know it’s just oblivion with guns & they aren’t even releasing a set of modding tools for it (supposedly, they will someday but how often do developers try to pull a fast one on the kiddies? i distinctly remember how the video game “bioshock” was going to be everything plus the vibrator that the ladies would squeal over for the next 100 years according to the hype. last i remember, the ladies aren’t squealing).

at any rate, all i’ve done so far is make a super cheat ring & put it on a shelf. yeah, i know, that’s the “hello world!” equivalent of oblivion modding & a brain-damaged chimp could pull that off as well if given the time & the bananas.

if memory serves me well, i always seem to get hung up on making rooms. that’s up next so i guess i’ll see how bad i do.

anyway, here are some things i learned about the construction set that might help out people even more newer then i am to it…

  • there’s a distinct “object-oriented” feel to the whole thing. you just don’t make an enchanted ring – you make an enchantment, then you recall that enchantment when you make the ring but you don’t just make a ring but a class of rings & then you name a specific ring that goes into a specific cell… bah! nine years later, you’ve made a stupid ring that takes forever to place onto a stupid shelf.

oh well, i was going to write more but i don’t feel up to it.
