Weekend Edition…

quarantine (movie), the first 48 (tv show), the ayleid steps (oblivion mod) all after the break…

quarantine (movie)…

i was excited for about 3 seconds when i heard about this film until i suddenly realized that it was actually a remake (you know how hollywood loves importing ideas because they can’t come up with any of their own) of a spanish film called “*rec” (as in “record”).

in a nutshell, a reporter & her cameraman are trapped inside of an apartment building that’s suffering from some sort of mysterious “fast zombie” infection & all you have left is to watch their video footage (ala yet another unholy spawn of the “blair witch project”). in the spanish original, the infection had a demonic possession angle. i have no clue of how us dumb americans are going to mangle the delicate intracacies of the spanish original (you know how we dumb americans manage to fcuk everything up that we touch – sorry, europe) but i’m sure we tried gosh darn hard. i’m guessing that they hew rather close to the original ending because, in the spanish original, the final shot is of the news reporter (a chick) getting dragged away in the darkness & they pull the same thing here in the american movie trailer. i don’t know why they put the ending in the trailer but you know how marketing people are – always spoiling the movie in 30 or less seconds just to fill the seats. btw, i’m not sorry if i spoiled the ending – here’s a fcuking newsflash – if you don’t want your movie to be spoiled months before it even comes out, don’t do a remake of a foreign film that’s been out for over a year. why not just… oh, i don’t know… release the original with subtitles or dubbing? or just make something original? i dunno. anyway, the dumb american remake will be out in a few months to make a quick buck or two. yay to capitalism!

the first 48 (tv show)…

imagine the tv show “law & order” except that everything in the show was real. real dead person, real detectives, real suspects… that’s “the first 48.” yeah, there’s no ‘gong gong’ sound but you can’t have anything. anyway, the hook of the show is that they show the first 48 hours (aka “the first 48,” get it?) of the investigation of a homicide. some cases, naturally go longer but that’s the gist of the show.

this show is addictive.

the ayleid steps 2.0 (oblivion mod)…

after verona house, i haven’t had a lot of time or motivation to download a mod that’ll crash my system or turn it into a slideshow. i stumbled upon a small mod called “the ayleid steps.” it’s version 2.0 but, trust me, it ain’t worth it.

ok, in brief, they’re sort of like stone teleporters from star trek – step on these circular flat stones, use a welkynd stone on them & bam! you’re someplace else. the problem is that the first quest is really buggy & unless you strictly go either the mage’s guild route or the non-mages’ guild route, you get stuck. i dunno – i had to read the spoilers & strictly go the mage’s guild route just to activate the things. maybe i’m just extremely stupid. you never know.

personally, i’m not interested in an involved easter egg hunt for finding these stones. i like the concept, i’m just not thrilled at the implementation. that’s all. i’m sure the intentions were all pure. maybe make the first quest a bit more dead-in-the-eyes accessible. i dunno.
